Do you ever notice the display cases when you come to the library? The cases are located just inside the main entrances to the library and always have unique items from people in and around our community. This month we have wonderful Snoopy and Garfield collectibles for your viewing pleasure. Thanks to the owners of these collections for sharing this amazing memorabilia with us!

Sing! Book Review
Sing by Joe Raposo
This beauty of a book crossed my desk today and I just had to stop and listen (yes, there's an included cd). The pictures tell a story of three baby birds preparing to leave their nest. All but one finds his voice and takes flight. That last little bird struggles to sing but then gives up. Along comes someone who encourages him and gives him just the push he needs to take flight and sing. Such a sweet story and the author's son has a message for children in the end of the book. The message reads: To every child, everywhere. Don't worry if it's not good enough: Just sing!

Mascot Mash!!
I just can't tell you how much fun we are having while planning our upcoming MASCOT MASH!! We decided to name the little worm located on the front of our library cards for children. We've set it to a vote and now wait patiently for our patrons to vote on their choice of names for this little fellow. The choices? Professor Wormsly, Professor Squigglesworth or Professor Booky. Which one would you choose?
A big thank you to our wonderfully creative, highly intelligent reference staff who made much larger versions of our library cards for snapshot day and for agreeing that yes, we do need to name that little worm on the card.
Here's a picture of the children's card:

Theodore Roosevelt at the Library!!
Did you hear that Teddy Roosevelt came to our library? Yes, he did! We had a great time hearing the story of how the teddy bear was named after this 26th president of the United States. Mr. Joe Wiegand reprised the role of Theodore Roosevelt and entertained us with many stories of Roosevelt's early years and life in the White House.
And here is our Mrs. Anna with the teddy bear given to us that night:
We are looking for a place in the children's department to display our little Teddy Roosevelt bear.

Quilts!!
The library hosts a quilt show every October. This has been going on since the 1970s. Our director, Sandy McCandless, started the quilt show when she was an outreach librarian. This is something many of us in the community look forward to every year. The quilts are just amazing!! The community votes on a favorite quilt. First, second and third place ribbons are awarded. This is a sampling of this year's quilts. Hope you enjoy taking a look around:

Back to Blogging....
Wow! Let a little thing like summertime come along and this blogging experience gets shoved to the background! We had a great time with our Summer Reading Program this summer and the children participating in the program read over 9,500 books! That's Great!! That is an average of 32 books for each child that reported back to us at the end of the summer. No telling how many books everyone read but just didn't have time to let us know about it at the end of the program.
Anyways....Have you been into the children's department lately? If so, then you've seen our new couches. We love them. L-o-v-e, love them!! This bright color just makes the room more cheerful. Take a look:

Let us know what you think!!
