The Sinking of the Titanic
Take a look at just some of the collection of materials about the RMS Titanic which can be found in the children's department of the Decatur Public Library:
This just in:
Titanic Sinks! A book filled with photographs, details and first-hand accounts including newspaper headlines which proclaim the launching of the great ship to be a "dazzling success," and how at its time, the ship was "the largest man-made moving object on earth." One headline tells us that the ship "can survive anything; practically unsinkable."
The Titanic: An Interactive History Adventure Experience this historic voyage. Will you sail in luxury as a first-class passenger? OR...Will you travel in third class with other immigrants who are seeking a new life in America? OR...Will you work as a crew member, serving passengers and trying to keep the ship safe? You choose your next move.
The library has this Titanic book series on CD if you would like to listen to a fictionalized account of the voyage. Paddy, Sophie, Juliana, and Alfie start out on a thrilling voyage which turns into a fight for survival. Can they save the people they love? Can they save themselves? One cold, horrifying night will decide all of their fates. This series was written by Gordon Korman who also is the author of three of the books in the very popular 39 Clues mystery series.
