Great News!!

Great news!!  We've received a grant which will allow us to replace our old, outdated read along kits with newer material.  Each of our new read along kits will include a book and the book on cd.

More great news!!  We will soon offer an online database which pairs books with audio so that children can follow along as the book is being read to them.  Some of these pairings will also have games that go along with them in order to reinforce what has just been read.

Even more great news!!  This grant will also allow us to add more audio to our Advantage collection at the library's site for downloadables.  We will add audio of popular titles for early readers.  Parents can search this site for familiar audio titles such as Make Way for Ducklings to match books they've taken home from the library.

Some of the benefits to pairing books with audio are:

-Provides a model of fluent reading
-Improves listening skills
-Introduces vocabulary
-Teaches pronunciation of words
-Removes a barrier some children may have while decoding words as they read
-Introduces children to books which may be above their reading level
-Help ESL students learn pronunciation of words and how to understand language as it is spoken

We are in the process of ordering all of these things and getting them ready for use and are so excited that this material is coming soon to your library!!
