The Storywalk project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg Hubbard Library.

Preschool Halloween Parade

Children 5 and younger are invited to come in costume and join us in the children's department Tuesday, October 28th for a special Halloween storytime.

My Very First Book Club

Homeschooling families are invited to join us for a special book club for young readers.  Read as many of Kevin Henkes books as you would like.  Come to class for a brief storytime and discussion of this author's works.  This is a way for children to get used to the idea of discussing what they enjoyed most about the books they've read.

Chopper the Dog @ the Library

Meet Chopper the dog during a storytime for kids of all ages.  Sunday, Oct. 5, 2pm-5pm.

Finding Book Levels

We know there are many of you looking for books on your child's reading level.  Sometimes it can be difficult to know just where to look.  We want to share some simple instructions on how to get accelerated reader information about some of the books in our collection.  The catalog can be found at this link:  Library's Catalog  

Follow these simple instructions to narrow your search.  :  

Also, we have a small notebook with many of our older book titles and the Accelerated Reader information about those titles.  We will be happy to assist you with using this notebook or feel free to use this notebook on your own.

Harry Potter Craft Day

Kids,

 Stop in on Monday, September 15 for an afternoon Harry Potter craft in the children's department.  This is a come and go event from 3:30pm to 5 pm.

There will be a special event for teens in the community room starting at 4:30pm that day.

Story Crafternoon begins September 11th and will meet at 3:30pm in the community room of the Decatur Public Library.  This is for schoolagers age 6 through 10 and meets once a month.

Home Daycare Group Time

Books, rhymes & music with home daycare groups.  Home daycares will need to schedule one week in advance.  Each session can accommodate 2 groups of up to 6 children each plus caregiver or 1 group of 7 to 12 children plus caregivers.  Caregivers schedule for just your group!

Crazy 8s Club for Preschoolers

Space is limited...register today for this 4 week class by emailing children@decatur.lib.al.us

Class meets each Wednesday from September 17th through October 8th and is for preschoolers ages 3 to 5.

Circus at the Library

Coming up this Thursday night---Skin and Bones Comedy Circus! Come out and celebrate all that reading you've done this summer with our Summer Reading Finale. Grand prize winners will be announced the night of this event. You do not have to be present to win.

Thursday, July 24th at 7 pm. This is an after hours event. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
